I decided to ride in Tour DaVita because I was so inspired by what our Village is doing and by our leader’s vision. You see we are a Village first and a company second and Tour DaVita is all about awareness and education about chronic kidney disease.
Today was the first day of the Tour DaVita and I am so proud to be a part of something so special. I have met so many wonderful teammates from all over the country, and everyone has an amazing story of why they are here and what challenges they faced to prepare for this amazing event. We could not have asked for more beautiful weather or a more beautiful route to ride on the Natchez trace.
Well, I turned 40 today and got to celebrate with 211 of my fellow Tour Davita participants. I cannot think of any place else I would rather be on my birthday. I feel blessed for the opportunity to take part in an event that can change so many lives. I came into today with just the hope that I would do my best and the mileage did not matter, but there was something special that happened out on that trail. Through the encouragement and teamwork of some very special people, this 40 year old couch potato mom pedaled the whole 56 miles!
I walk by some words on the wall every day at DaVita’s Team Music City location. They say, “Speak with your life….not just your words,” and that for me is what DaVita is all about and why I am so proud to do my part in making a lasting impact on kidney awareness. So I will sign off for now from command central here at Collinwood High school in Collinwood, TN, but not before thanking all the wonderful people who have supported us along the way, and especially the lady out on Route 85 who filled up my water bottle, and with ice to boot!
